World Equestrian Games 2018

TRYON, NC, USA - Only every four years the World Equestrian Games take place and thus form the highlight of this year's equestrian season. 2018 the journey leads to the American Southern States: Tryon in North Carolina is the venue for the games, which will be held from 11 to 23 September 2018, and as a blacksmith I am once again in charge of the Swiss show jumping team.

What are the aims of the Swiss show jumpers?

Andy Kistler's goals are clear: "Unfortunately, the yield of Swiss show jumpers at World Championships has been meagre so far. Only a team bronze medal was brought home from The Hague (NED) on the occasion of the World Equestrian Games WEG 1994. I see it as a good omen that this was achieved by a team that also included Thomas Fuchs, who accompanies us to the USA as a trainer," the Swiss team boss jokingly says. "But first and foremost we have a strong team with great horses at the start. We want to fight for medals both in the team and in the individual classification and, above all, secure our qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 at an early stage. This requires at least one classification of the team in the "first six".

Here you can download the Swiss participants of week 1 from 11th - 16th September 2018 (Endurance, CC, Dressage) and week 2 from 17th - 23rd September 2018 (Driving, Jumping, Voltige) as PDF files.

Martin Fuchs with Clooney and Steve Guerdat with Bianca win silver and bronze, respectively, at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon with two great zero rounds in the singles final. This was after Switzerland had fought so unhappily in the team competition on Friday and finished 4th. Only the German rider Simone Blum with DSP Alice had to beat the two Swiss riders, who had delivered a great overall performance over the whole duration of the competition. Team boss Andy Kistler was overwhelmed: "Today we actually won team gold with these two medals! What a fantastic and historic success for our sport!
