Olympic Games Rio 2016

Olympia in RIO 2016

As a farrier with the Swiss team in Rio - simply fantastic!!! Here are the words of team boss Andy Kistler about RIO 2016:

Rio 2016: Good performances - unfortunately without the desired medal

We were close to the medal, even very close. Especially in the singles final, where Steve Guerdat with Nino des Buissonnets just missed the first three places. The two started as reigning Olympic champions and were so close to defending their title from London 2012. One step was missing to a further historical sport history. But also Martin and Clooney were close to a possible medal. They missed the jump-off because of a drop in the second heat. The result was a great 9th place for the young pair. I found it a pity that only three of the four qualified riders were allowed to compete in the individual final. For better or for worse I had to decide and so Janika Sprunger and Bonne Chance could not compete for the individual medals. Hopefully this nonsensical rule will be abolished for the future. But there were also a lot of positive things that we can take with us. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro there was a great show jumping competition. The level was world class and we were right in the middle and ahead. The stadiums were full, the enthusiastic spectators fevered along and great TV pictures went around the whole world. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our grooms, veterinarian Thomas Wagner, farrier Cyrill Zuber, technical coach Thomas Fuchs, Hansueli Sprunger and our delegation leader Evelyne Niklaus. It was also great that our horse owners Urs E. Schwarzenbach, Christiana Duguet, Arturo Fasana as well as our loyal companions Ursi and Luigi Baleri and Renata Fuchs were with us in Rio. Thanks also for your support in and for Rio, the many thumbs down and the good wishes! Now we look forward and in the next weeks we will think about how we will manage to bring home at least one medal in Tokyo 2020.
